Find and update a project’s environment values through Orbit.
Before you start
Know which environment file your application actually loads. Similar names across root and nested app folders can refer to different runtimes.
Choose the correct environment file, keep values hidden when sharing, and edit only the variable you intend to change.
Step by step
Open Orbit → Environment and choose the relevant file tab, such as .env or .env.example.
Use Search variables to narrow the list. Use All, Set, or Empty to distinguish configured values from blank entries.
Keep values hidden while sharing your screen. Reveal them only when you need to inspect the contents privately.
Choose Edit on the intended variable and enter the new value. Save to write it to that file, or Cancel to leave it unchanged.
Use Rescan after changes made elsewhere, then confirm the intended key and file reflect the update.
Restart the relevant local service if it reads environment variables only at startup. Verify the resulting behavior in the actual app.
What to expect
The intended local environment file contains your change, and you have checked whether the running service uses it.
Troubleshooting and useful details
Set means the value is nonempty; it does not establish that a credential is valid. Editing .env.example does not necessarily configure the running app. If a save does not appear, check file permissions and rescan. Do not copy secret values into public screenshots or commits.
