Check voice readiness and microphone access when speech is not becoming usable input.
Before you start
Keep a text-input route available while troubleshooting. Distinguish microphone capture, speech recognition, and a provider’s response; they can fail independently.
Voice settings help establish setup readiness. Diagnose microphone capture, transcription, and the provider response as separate stages.
Step by step
Open Settings → Voice and inspect the setup and readiness state. Complete any required local voice setup before retrying.
Confirm that the Mac can receive audio from the microphone you intend to use. Check system microphone permission for Choro if access was denied.
Try a short, clear phrase in the intended voice flow and observe whether text appears. Avoid sending a long task while testing capture.
Read and correct the transcription before submitting an implementation request. Speech recognition can mishear filenames and commands.
If transcription appears but no answer follows, inspect the conversation’s provider configuration and error separately from microphone capture.
Report which stage failed, the readiness state, and any exact error if the problem persists. Avoid including sensitive recorded speech in a diagnostic report.
What to expect
You can identify whether setup, capture, transcription, or the downstream provider needs attention.
Troubleshooting and useful details
A working keyboard composer does not prove microphone access is granted. Project Talk and dictated agent requests serve different purposes; confirm the intended conversation before sending transcribed instructions.
