Ask a focused project question without starting an implementation agent.
Before you start
Select the project you want to ask about. Quick Ask uses your configured provider; a question can still require provider access even though it does not start a full agent conversation.
The demo asks a repository question in project scope. Check this scope and the selected model before sending your question.
Step by step
Open Quick Ask with Command+Option+A, or your customized Quick Ask shortcut. The panel opens over the current workspace.
Check the scope control below the question. Choose the project for questions about its repository, or General when the question is not about a project.
Check the model control. Quick Ask has its own model preference, so it may differ from the model used for new agents.
Write a focused question. For example: “How do I run and verify this project?” Name the relevant feature or file when that helps disambiguate the request.
Send the question and read the answer. Follow any repository references and compare suggested commands with the actual project documentation before running them.
Ask a follow-up in the same panel if you need clarification. Use Start agent only when you want to turn the discussion into a reviewed agent draft.
What to expect
The answer appears in Quick Ask while your workspace remains available. The conversation is recorded in Ask History so you can return to it later.
Troubleshooting and useful details
Project scope matters: General is not a substitute for checking the intended repository. An answer is guidance, not proof that a command ran or a feature works. In the demo, the follow-up distinguishes a basic file-presence check from a real UI test. If a provider is unavailable, resolve its sign-in or configuration before retrying.
